The hex hub is the interface between the axle and the wheel and carries all drive torque through that connection. Aluminum resists the rounding that lets a wheel start moving independently of the axle under load once that begins it destroys the hub and the wheel together, usually quickly. Screw pins are included so you can fit them properly
