The arch was erected in 1691 to commemorate the landing of King William III in England after the Siege of Limerick
they were most frequently known as Aske's Hospital (sometimes as Haberdashers' Almshouses)
the only member of the congregation awake (besides the speaker) is the clerk who observes the charms of a young girl
taken from an orignal painting in Vauxhall Gardens
