Instituted 28 May 1857 by Gnther Friedrich Karl II. (1915 1918 issue). A silver Maltese Cross, on loop for suspension with bronze oak leaves bearing dates 1914 1916, the obverse with a silver gilt center applique with a gilt lion rampant on a blue enameled background, within an intricately patterned frame, the reverse bearing a silver center applique with a royal monogram of Gnther Friedrich Carl, measuring 39.
