A Civil War Union Army Hardy Hat Badge, C.1860 Newly Listed MacPhail received his Colonial AuxiliaryOval shaped, obverse with the eagle insignia in silver bullion wire, in various textures, on a black velvet base, the outer edge trimmed in beaded copper wire, reverse in a fine dark brown burlap, with hooks top and bottom for attachment to the hat, a pressed cotton based pad affixed in place around the bottom hook, scattered discoloration and interruptions evident in the bullion, measuring 55 mm (w) x 79. 5 mm (h), extremely fine.
