A Grand Cross Set comprising the badge, in silver gilt, a blue enamelled eight point star with undulating smooth curves in each quadrant, the obverse medallion presenting PIVS IX in white enamel encircled by the inscription VIRTVTI ET MERITO, the reverse is plain with the medallion inscribed ANNO MDCCCXLVII, measures 64. 65 mm (w) x 64. 90 mm (h), worn on a full length blue and red sash, exhibiting
