Alphonse Laveran, French physician Clarendon Code Maureen Starkey is wearing aAlphonse Laveran, French physician, 1917. In 1880 Laveran (1845 1922) made the discovery that malaria were caused by protozoa. For this, and his later work on sleeping sickness, he won the Nobel Prize for Physiology or Medicine in 1907.
