The 'snow-bird' and the 'broom-rape' Size:M: 50 x 40cm Scene at Sadler's Wells'Passer nivalis', the snow bird, and 'Orobanche virginiana flore pentapetale cernuo', the broom rape (Catesby's identifications; modern scientific names: Junco hyemalis, the dark eyed junco; Monotropa uniflora, the one flower Indian pipe). A toadstool, captioned Fungoides capitulo intorto (modern name Geoglossum glabrum, the black adder tongue fungus), is also depicted, but is not mentioned in Catesby's text.
