The sitter is shown facing the viewer, his body turned to the right as viewed. Both hands rest on a book, opened at a page headed 'OPER OMNIA'. Upright books and quill pens are also on the table. With an inscription of achievements commencing: 'FRIDERICUS HOFFMANNUS Regiae Majestatis Prussicae'
