France, Iii Republic. A Medal For The Conquerors Of The Bastille, 1889 Hold Commander of the 234th Infantry(Insigne en or de Vainqueur de la Bastille decerne aux Gardes). Instituted 1789. Type III (1889). In bronze, a lozenge shaped decoration with ball finials at each point, the obverse features an open padlock with broken chains and two cannonballs, surrounded by the inscription LA LIBERTE CONQUISE LE 14 JUILLET 1789 (Freedom Conquered July 14 1789), the reverse bears a sword with a wreath around the middle of the blade, surrounded by the inscription
