The Cooper Car Company Ltd was incorporated by Charles Cooper and his son John in December 1947, pioneering quantity production of racing cars and soon exporting around the world. Motor racing was an upper class sport until enthusiasts in Bristol founded the 500 Club in 1945, showing that cars powered by single cylinder 500cc motorcycle engines could be made for only 150. In 1946, John Cooper welded the front ends of
