I'm guessing that the leather strip threaded through the cheeks of this old primitively carved figure once formed a loop by which it hung

It appears that her neck broke at some point but was carefully glued back in place and now seems stable

I would just mat it and put it in a very simple frame

16 1/2" t x 7" w x 1 3/16" thick and in good condition

"Mothers muff" and then "muff" again, handwritten on a paper "Fancy Furs" label from Cotrell & Loeonard fur shop, Albany NY. Great label, terrific lion, and even better as a found object. C. 1900. 8 3 8 x 8 3 8 as mounted to gray board. Very good condition.
