Looks like an old restoration to the surface of the bottom right corner

On the back of this little building is written "Knowles Steam Pump"

with the layers of wrapping--looking like a combination of wool and leather and I'm not sure what all bound with string--creating a cushion for the edge of iron underneath

but all very nicely done
