painted a similar gray

one can glimpse a bit of blue background peeking through

and the silver shows a little pitting

but I find it pretty transcendent

A little further research leads me to believe that he was a member of the very prominent Sayward family of York Maine. In any event, really a nice landscape painting I think, oil on board with satisfying impasto especially on the leaves of
