I’d guess it dates from second half of the 19th century

or certainly as part of a collection alongside other beautiful boxes or lacquerware

Though I have found no mark on it

with the idea that the dolls would absorb and carry these worries away

I believe the owner was in the military, and brought back lots of things from Japan, starting in the 1940s, which might be the age of these. They're just wonderful objects that could be great used to hold a hair bun in place, stake a plant, or just add a pop of cuteness here and there. So sweet! Sold
