Athena's importance was maintained even after warfare had transformed Greek goddess civilization. Her attributes are self confidence, power, courage, intelligence and diplomacy. The Romans called her Minerva. The virgin goddess gained the powers of the Gorgon Medusa, whose face is embossed on her shield.
